The Anacostia Watershed Society is offering a meaningful opportunity to gain community service hours by volunteering in one of our several environmental restoration programs or projects.

Programs include:

  • Eradicating non-native plant species that are threatening the natural beauty of community parks;
  • Planting trees along the tributaries of the Anacostia River to restore natural environmental functions;
  • River Cleanup projects to help reduce trash along the banks of the Anacostia River and it’s watershed parks;
  • Wetland restoration to reconstruct parts of vital tidal marshes crucial for a healthier functioning Anacostia River.

Students and other youth will earn service hours for their efforts in any of the programs.

This valuable hands-on experience will reward volunteers with the knowledge of environmental stewardship and conservation skills applicable to local watersheds. Moreover, the AWS can write a letter of participation confirming your service.

In return, the Anacostia River, and the AWS, benefits from much needed volunteer and awareness efforts you offer!
