    Funding opportunities:

    For DC:

DC Mini-Grant. The Chesapeake Bay Trust has partnered with the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office to administer a Mini Grants program for Bay and river education projects in Washington, D.C. The funding, provided through the NOAA B-WET Program, will provide $11,400 for meaningful watershed education experiences.

Schools and organizations serving Washington, D.C. can apply for the grants at any time. However, apply early because the program will close as soon as all funds are distributed. Decisions are made within 4 to 6 weeks from the date the grant is received. The Trust will not reimburse for items purchased/trips taken before a decision has been made. Application forms and instructions for the D.C. Mini Grant Program are available on the Trust website.

DC Department of Health. Through the Watershed Protection Division of the Environmental Health Administration, funding is available for Schoolyard Conservation projects.

Transportation Assistance for DC High Schools --- AWS can assist you in funding transportation to and from meaningful Bay experiences (canoe trips and/or wetland plantings). Please call and speak with one of the environmental educators for more information.

    For Maryland:

Maryland Department of Natural Resources Aquatic Resources Education Grant. This is a reimbursement grants program for public/private schools and school systems. Grants of $1,000 per school and up to $4000 per school district are available to conduct aquatics related projects.

Chesapeake Bay Trust Mini Grants. Mini Grants Now Available Up to $5000! Applications for the mini grant program are accepted on an on-going basis. Decisions are made within 4 to 6 weeks from the date the grant is received. The Trust will not reimburse for items purchased/trips taken before a decision has been made. Visit the Trust’s website to download the new application and new instructions and criteria.

    Other information:

Stewardship and Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences. As part of the Chesapeake 2000 Agreement, DC and Maryland have committed to provide a meaningful Bay or stream outdoor experience for every school student in the watershed, beginning with the class of 2005, before graduation from high school. Maryland hopes to have three experiences: one during elementary school, a second during middle school, and another during high school.
