Watershed Wednesday Happy Hour
Posted by Maureen Farrington

One of the big reasons it is the Year of the Anacostia is that we are celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Frederick Douglass, the "Lion of Anacostia." Come and learn more about Frederick Douglass and his views on water. Before he escaped slavery, Douglass saw the tall ships of the Chesapeake Bay and the waters as the path towards freedom.

Our speaker this month is Christopher Bonner, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Maryland. Professor Bonner's focus is on early 19th century American History, so he will focus on that period of Frederick Douglass' life and writings.

Many thanks to New Deal Cafe for hosting us this month!  New Deal is in the heart of Old Greenbelt, and features wonderful food and drinks.  Be sure to check out their "Nude Eel Ale" brewed by Franklin's Brewpub in Hyattsville.
