Beautiful paths along the river and through the watershed

The Anacostia River offers world-class trails along the shores of the river and tributaries. The Anacostia River Trail, the Anacostia Tributary Trail system and the Riverwalk Trail are excellent hiking and cycling trail systems on the Anacostia River.  More than 70 miles of dedicated paved paths run throughout DC and along the streams and creeks branching out.

Hikers and bikers are greeted by the region's wealth of wildlife, with Bald Eagles and Osprey often overhead throughout the spring and summer. Kingman Island in DC offers a particularly bucolic hike for the adventurous.

In addition to personal exploration, hikers can get guided tours with AWS periodically (see our calendar for more!) Along the walks, botanists and conservationists will educate you on native flora and natural history of the region. These walks are a great chance to learn about native plants and animals and to see what AWS is doing to conserve and restore the native populations.
